There is a library on the first floor of the Jeonju City Hall building: The Book Column Library, which is called 책기둥도서관 in Korean. When you enter, four huge columns in the center will catch your eye. Take your time perusing these shelves, as this unique library is sure to have a book that suits your taste.

The columns in the center of this library are bookshelves, each with their own theme. The columns have a symbolic significance that books not only physically support the library but that books support the lives of Jeonju citizens. The first book column is the “World Column”, which has books about libraries and bookstores around the world. The second is the “Jeonju Column”. These are books catering to the specialized fields that some public libraries in Jeonju have. For example, the Inhoo Library specializes in movies, the Geonji Library specializes in ecology, and the Samcheon Library runs programs related to cooking. The third is the “Citizen Column”, which specializes in books recommended by Jeonju citizens, book club members, and librarians. All of the books in this column are donated by citizens. The fourth is the “Publishing House Column”; these books are recommended by publishing houses, from large-scale to independent publishing houses. The themes are divided according to the book pillars because it creates an atmosphere where visitors can visualize the book’s contents while admiring the structure.

There are five more sections on the first floor besides the book columns. These sections are divided according to keywords such as “birthdays”, “children”, and “art galleries”, and provide detailed curation for each.

On the second floor, there is a shelf designed to introduce Jeonju's unique regional themes that any visitor can sympathize with. It's called "Jeonju's Shelf". It consists of a variety of books on Jeonju's traditions, food, culture, history, authors, etc.

Adjacent “Jeonju’s Shelf” is a section that houses books in eight different themes, called the "Local Bookstore Shelf". Books on this shelf are curated into eight themes to convey the virtues of empathy and wisdom necessary for us to live our lives as Jeonju citizens. All the topics are designated as just one Korean syllable.
