Students planned and created the liberal arts courses they wanted to take.

The “Ro-un” Student Council and the Educational Innovation Office at JBNU jointly organized a contest titled "Contest for Liberal Arts Competition I Created”, providing students with an opportunity to design their own liberal arts courses. Seong Myeong-kuk, the Teaching & Learning Team Manager of the Educational Innovation Office, stated that they aim to develop future-oriented general education courses with a focus on enhancing students’ competencies. This is partly to encourage students to create courses and to potentially implement them as part of the university's curriculum in the future. Jung Geon-pil, the head of the Student Welfare Department of the “Ro-un” Student Council, said, "Our guiding principle has been to 'sincerely work for the students'. In line with this principle, we wanted to create classes that students desire and wish to take, especially considering that students are the primary beneficiaries of education.”

The competition took place from October 18th to November 17th, 2023. The evaluation process involved student voting, which took place online from November 21st to 26th, while the Educational Innovation Office selected three professors to head the project. As a result, Park Hyo-min from the Department of English Language & Literature clinched victory by submitting the assignment for “Essential Contracts and Legal Knowledge for College Students”. The Educational Innovation Office announced that the team’s ideas for a new course will be later communicated to the relevant departments. A survey will be conducted later to identify the sufficient number of people needed to establish the new liberal arts course.
