The JBNU Foreign Language Education Center offered a free special lectures program from October to December, 2023. It provided the chance to learn about various foreign languages and cultures for adults residing in Jeollabuk do. They could learn German, French, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish, which included learning about their cultures. The program was structured into two classes, a “culture” class and a “language” class, each accommodating twenty students.

Student A, who is not affiliated with JBNU, decided to take a course since she is interested in learning Chinese. She said, “It was good because I could ask things that I was curious about to the teacher directly on the website.” However, she was disappointed about the short period of the course. Student B is also not a JBNU student. B said he took one of the courses after seeing banners on Iksan’s specialized campus. He said, “It was a good chance to remember a foreign language that I had forgotten, but it was a shame that the period of the course was too short.”

The JBNU Foreign Language Education Center said, ”This program aims to provide local residents, ranging from college students to individuals in their 40s and 50s, with the opportunity to learn a second language, which is often challenging to find.” In order to promote the program, they used Jeonju City bulletin boards, hung banners, and sent official letters to various colleges. In addition, the center encourages individuals to seize this valuable opportunity to explore the languages and cultures of other countries. Apart from this specific program, there are numerous language courses available, so if you are interested, there are plenty to choose from.
