JBNU was finally selected for the “Glocal University 30”, which supports universities that lead innovation in the region.

“Glocal University 30” is a project wherein the Ministry of Education designates and supports thirty local universities in non-metropolitan areas to be Glocal Universities by 2026. JBNU is actively committed to fostering mutual growth between the region and the university, aligning with the overarching purpose of Glocal University 30.

According to Joo Hye-yun, an officer of the Division of Planning and Coordination, JBNU has outlined five major projects to transform itself into a student-centered university.

1. University-Industrial City Triangle Construction Project

The goal is to establish the region as a hub for local growth by offering tailored R&D (Research and Development) for companies, nurturing talent, and fostering an environment conducive to start-ups.

2. Regional Revitalization Project Utilizing Seonam University’s Closed Campus in Namwon

A glocal campus will be established at the Seonam University campus in cooperation with Namwon. It plans to increase the population of Jeollabuk-do by introducing specialized majors for international students.

3. Breaking Down the Walls between Universities in Jeollabuk-do

This will allow local university students to utilize JBNU's facilities and educational infrastructures freely.

4. Broadening the Recruitment of New Students and Strengthening Students Major Selections

The transfer major ratio will be expanded to 50% and the requirement for completing a double major will be completely abolished.

5. Attracting Five Thousand International Students

JBNU aims to achieve global recognition among the top 100 universities.

The team leader of Planning, Jung Sun-bum, emphasized, “These projects aim to provide JBNU students with chances to secure positions at outstanding companies” He added, “It is expected that our university will play a pivotal role in regional development. This involves building networks and offering diverse experiences across all aspects.”
