Capturing Warmth by Making Your Own Candles
I visited the candle craft workshop "From Wood" near JBNU. As soon as the door opened, a pleasant aroma and a cute-shaped candle welcomed me. After a casual greeting with the expert, I sat down and put on the apron which was prepared on the chair.

1. First, choose the candle color, fragrance oil, and any candle toppings to decorate the candle with.

There are many colors, fragrance oils, and toppings made of wax such as crackers, cereals, and fruit that are premade by experts. It's a good idea to plan out the candle you want in advance.

2. Add pigment to the pre-melted wax.

Since the color of the melted wax is different from the color of the hardened wax, drip the wax one drop at a time to check the color of the hardened wax. Additionally, the expert preheats the wax to the appropriate temperature. The melting point varies depending on the type of wax, so ask an expert about this. In this process, a natural wax called soy wax was used.

4. Stir thoroughly in a circle or W shape to mix the fragrance oil and wax well.

5. Pour the well-mixed wax into the heated container.

Heat the container to prevent the wax from separating from the container. When pouring the wax, you can easily hold the wick in place with wooden chopsticks. Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot wax during this process.

6. Wait until the wax hardens, then decorate the candle with candle toppings.

It is easier to secure the candle toppings if you put them on before the wax completely hardens. You can decorate your candle in your own style using a variety of colorful candle toppings.

7. Shorten the long wicks and heat them gently to secure them.

You can shorten the wick neatly and cutely by rolling it using a toothpick or a long stick.

How to Maintain Candles and Precautions!

✓ You can melt the candle with a candle warmer instead of burning the wick directly.

✓ When first burning the candle, burn until the entire surface is melted to prevent tunneling.

✓ To prevent soot and ensure a stable flame, keep the wick length at 5mm.

✓ Stop use when 1cm of wax remains at the bottom.

✓ Do not light it while sleeping or absent from the area, and be sure to ventilate after each use.

✓ Store candles in a place away from direct sunlight.

✓ The wax has a shelf life of approximately three months. After the expiration date, the smell disappears and it is difficult to use, so it is best to throw it away.

Candle crafts are very simple crafts that everyone can do. In the process of making my own candle, I enjoyed looking at the various colors and cute candle toppings. In addition, I was able to heal while working, surrounded by the pleasant aroma. With the small light of your candle, the adorable decorations and the amazing aroma can warm your heart and brighten up your surroundings. Light up your cold space with candles!
