JBNU invited special guests to give valuable lectures.

The JBNU 2023 Relay Lectures were held on September 14th and on October 4th. The special lectures, a pledge of The General Student Council, were successfully held. The lectures drew a lot of attention since the speakers who took to the podium are public figures who are usually difficult to successfully invite. The first lecturer who spoke on September 14th was novelist Kim Young-ha, who gave the lecture entitled “Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”.

The second lecturer who spoke on October 4th was criminal profiler Pyo Chang-won, who gave a talk on “Criminal Psychology and Profiling”. Choi Ye-won from the Department of IT Convergence Mechatronics Engineering said, “I regularly check the university announcements. Recently, I became interested in a special lecture by the novelist Kim Young-ha, whom I have always admired. It seemed that Kim chose a topic that could capture the interest of students from various fields, including those in the natural sciences and liberal arts. This made the lecture informative and beneficial for everyone.”

Park Ui-jeen from the Department of Urban Engineering said, “When I checked the university announcements, it announced that the novelist Kim Young-ha, whom I’ve seen on the cover of books and on TV, will be giving a lecture. I decided to sign up at once.” Park found it comforting that Kim Young-ha mentioned in his lecture that in a society that values creativity, it is okay not to be creative all the time. After listening to his speech, she felt uplifted. Additionally, his insights on when and how to harness creativity were highly intriguing to her. On the other hand, Park and Choi also expressed their disappointment. Choi said that there was a shortage of seats, so her friend could not join the lecture. Park said that the chair was uncomfortable, and there were no desks, so it was hard to take notes. Besides these small inconveniences, the lectures seemed to be a big hit with JBNU students.
