In recent years, anyone can easily spot a PM (Personal Mobility) vehicle, such as an electric kick scooter, on campus. These are very popular with college students because anyone with a driver’s license can rent them and move around quickly. However, as their popularity has rapidly grown, several problems have arisen. First, there have been instances where riders who did not wear safety equipment, such as helmets, have been injured. Furthermore, these scooters and bikes are often parked improperly, and have simply been thrown aside on the sidewalk. These situations have continued and both pedestrians and drivers have inevitably suffered great inconveniences.

Solutions were needed to clear up these safety and parking issues. In September, JBNU faculty and The General Student Council designated specific spots where PM vehicles could be parked. Lee Hui-yun, who is serving as the deputy director of The General Student Council’s facility management team, mentioned more details. “To solve this problem, we conducted an online survey. We posed a question, ‘Where do you think parking spaces for PM vehicles should be made?’ We tried to allow for the convenience of students as much as possible. When discussing the problem with JBNU faculty, the responses from students were considered,” he said.

Currently, the most commonly used PM device by students is the electric kick scooter. It can only be parked using certain applications. If you try to park in a noparking spot, a warning that “this is a no-parking zone” will appear on the phone, and costly parking fees will ensue.

In order to ensure students’ safety and maintain a clean campus, these rules must be followed.
