Beneath rainy skies, students illuminate the festival with their talent, culture, and community spirit.

The Scholarship, Culture, and Sports Festival, unlike the Gunji Daedong Festival which lasts for three days, took place on September 15th for just one day. Despite a daylong rainfall, many students enjoyed the festival. The daytime activities, including booths, flea markets, and food trucks, spanned from the JBNU old gate to the second Student Hall, also known as “Notification Street”.

The booths were divided according to sports, culture, and scholarship categories. At the sports booths, students could experience various historical sport activities representing the different eras in Korea. Activities ranged from Tuho* and horseback archery, which represents the Joseon Dynasty, to modern sports like basketball and badminton.

* This is a traditional Korean game where two teams take turns throwing arrows with a rubber shaft into a large pot placed in a yard.

At the cultural booths, traditional Korean folktales such as “Kongjwi and Patjwi” (콩쥐와 팥쥐), “The Hare’s Liver” (토끼 전), and “Kyunwoo and Jiknyo” (견우와 직녀) were used as the themes for various activities. For example, the “Kyunwoo and Jiknyo” booth randomly selected pairs of participants to engage in a fifteen-minute conversation. The General Student Council made this booth to help students meet diverse people. At the scholarship booths, attendees could avail themselves of services such as how to best apply makeup for job interviews, get their resume headshots taken, and receive personal color analysis. Almost all the services were provided for free.

At a booth run by students from the College of Nursing, attendees could have their blood pressure and body composition measured. In addition, attendees learned and practiced CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Lee Seung-hyun from the College of Nursing said, “Most people are not well-prepared when someone is in critical condition. Through this learning opportunity, many students can learn how to handle such situations effectively.”

During the evening event, the festivities continued at the small schoolyard with a night market, the Scholarship, Culture, and Sports Festival competition, and artists' performances. Students who had obtained adult verification enjoyed diverse food and drinks while watching the performances. A total of ten teams participated in the competition, allowing many students to showcase their talents. As a result, the central dance clubs of JBNU called PIT A PAT, ISIS, and Naraegit ranked first, second, and third, respectively. Following their performance, artists such as Jung ARO, DORI, and Big Naughty took the stage, bringing joy to the eyes and ears of many students. Yang Hee-jung from the Department of IT Convergence Mechatronics Engineering commented, “It’s great to see artists up close for free. I feel more satisfied with the stage quality compared to last year's Scholarship, Culture, and Sports Festival.” Despite the rain, this one day festival ended with a bang.
