On September 14th, JBNU held a public hearing for students, followed by hearings for staff on the 19th and faculty on the 20th, consecutively explaining the rationale and key directions of university innovation through the “Glocal 30 Project”. Baek Ki-tae, vice-president of planning, explained specific plans for mutual development with the region, including the establishment of the industries and retaining the human talents, and the revitalization of unused areas due to the closing of Seonam University. He also accounted for the establishment of the “JBNU Regional Development Institute” to lead the development of fourteen local governments. In addition, Baek explained educational reforms in line with social trends to select the students regardless of major and the change to an academic structure for the region that will help student and regional development. Its contents include measures to innovate education, through the establishment of “Department of Convergence Engineering in Battery” and “Department of Korea Defense Industry”. Furthermore, he also announced a bold plan to transform JBNU into a global hub by bringing in five thousand international students and strengthening their living environment.
