In the drama <Tomorrow>, there is an episode about a Korean War veteran who lives in a poor neighborhood. It shocked people that a man who devoted his youth to protecting the country and lived his whole life suffering from the aftermath of the war still led a hard life.

Unfortunately, this is not just a story in a drama. On June 23rd 2023, the story of a veteran in his 80s that stole food due to poverty surprised many people. He was living on government subsidies of about 600,000 won (subsidies he received as a veteran and other subsidies). Considering that most veterans are old, unable to earn money, and do not have an economic base, 600,000 won is simply not enough money to live on. After people heard the story of this veteran who stole food to survive, many of them offered help.

According to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the subsidies provided to war veterans are “pensions for participation in the war” and “living support funds”. The pension for participation in war is 390,000 won for those 65 years older among registered veterans. The living support fund is  r older among registered veterans. The living support fund is 100,000 won for those 80 years old or older among registered veterans. Not only do most of the veterans have no economic  veterans. Not only do most of the veterans have no economic base, and most of that money goes into medicine, it is not enough money to live on. The difference in pensions provided  nough money to live on. The difference in pensions provided by each metropolitan council and local government also poses a problem. In some areas, veterans can receive pensions, but  problem. In some areas, veterans can receive pensions, but there are areas where they cannot, and conditions vary by city. It is imperative that the government unify the different policies  It is imperative that the government unify the different policies so that veterans can receive equal treatment as those who have dedicated their youth to protect the country. dedicated their youth to protect the country.

Present-day Korea is because of the sacrifices of countless veterans. We should keep them in our thoughts and fight for the  veterans. We should keep them in our thoughts and fight for the government to support veterans more to live better lives. They should be respected and no longer live a hard-knock life in the  ould be respected and no longer live a hard-knock life in the
