Jeong In-won, a graduate student from the Department of Agricultural Convergence Science at the Insect Phylogenetic Evolution Research Laboratory of JBNU, recently received the Excellence Award in the oral presentation category at the “2023 ESK (The Entomological Society of Korea) and Korean Society of Applied Entomology Joint Spring Conference”. Jeong presented his research process on the topic of the” Application of AI in Micro Lepidopteran Pests” focusing on Stathmopoda auriferella, which is one of the globally recognized pests and a species of moth. Furthermore, he explained his research findings regarding the application of AI technology, specifically the “YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm”, a type of object detection which he is using for real-time pest detection and the accurate classification of biological taxa. He expressed gratitude to Professor Kim Sora and his lab team for their encouragement and assistance.
