The General Student Council held a school cafeteria menu contest in March. This contest was meaningful in that students made a menu for Husaenggwan school cafeteria. The contest application period was from March 6th to 20th. Five recipes were selected through a document screening. On March 24th, the students selected in the preliminary round demonstrated their recipes at Husaenggwan Cafeteria.

Bae Gyeong-eun, a deputy director of the external cooperation department who organized the contest, said, “due to COVID-19, as the JBNU Cooperative which runs the school cafeteria has faced many difficulties, its menus and scale have been reduced. Since last year, when students started to return to school, they have visited the school cafeterias. This is one of the pledges of The General Student Council. We want to introduce new cafeteria menus, so we decided to receive the menu recommendations directly from students.”

There were ten panels, five of whom were student committee members and the rest were JBNU nutritionists and The General Student Council members. In the preliminary round, the evaluation criteria consisted of whether it was possible to sell at Husaenggwan Cafeteria, the unit price, the budget sales amount, the cooking time, and the nutritional value. In the finale, they evaluated the taste, the suitability of the menu item, the possibility of large-capacity production, and whether the food could be sold steadily.

As a result, doenjang jjigae[된장찌개], which is soybean soup with thinly sliced pork belly, was selected. This new menu item will be introduced at the end of April or early May after cooks in the cafeteria have practice sufficiently. Why don’t you try it at Husaenggwan Cafeteria?
