Since last December, the Netflix series 'The Glory' has gained tremendous popularity worldwide. The series showed brutal school violence incidents, shocking most viewers. Additionally, the shameless attitudes of the perpetrators and their carefree futures caused anger among viewers. How could the perpetrators live without guilt? It is because their wealth and status reduced the gravity of their sins. Does this sound like a story that could only come from a drama?

Last February, there was an incident that caused a stir in Korea. It was the school violence case of Jeong Soon-shin's son. Jeong was appointed head of the National Office of Investigation, and while the public was discussing his qualifications, his son's school violence case was highlighted. However, his son was only lightly punished and was not sanctioned against taking the college entrance examination. Jeong's son, who was the perpetrator, went on to attend a prestigious university; however, the victim had suffered from significant trauma and foregone entering college. According to the investigation, Jeong's son showed no signs of remorse. Rather, he even threatened the victims by citing his father's job.

Unfortunately, these incidents are not new to Korea. These are not simply isolated cases of school violence. They are perpetuated by an invisible hierarchy in Korea. Its criteria can be money, status, or connections. The wicked deserve to be punished, and the victims deserve to be protected, but this cycle shows no sign of stopping. We have to break free from this yoke. How can we eradicate the injustices caused by these hierarchies?

There is something we can do at our level. We need to continue to be interested in these events. Keep in mind that we can also be victims in this society. In order not to be treated unfairly, and not to be in a world where perpetrators live well, we must constantly be aware of and speak out against unfair treatment. Cry out against injustice! Remember, when many people’s voices gather, our opinions become powerful.
