In late April, many students voiced their concerns about the JBNU Library app malfunctions. The app users had difficulties reserving seats, generating entrance QR codes, and using the app overall due to its slow speed. The JBNU Globe interviewed two anonymous students and the Central Library Multimedia Center, which oversees the JBNU Library app.

Both students A and B could not use the Central Library because of the app problems. Student A stated, “most of the seats were taken because of midterms. I tried to reserve what seemed like an empty one from the app, but it kept saying I was an unregistered user. I eventually gave up using the app and used the seat ticketing machine instead. Unfortunately, the seats were already full, and I had to head back home.” Student B said, “to enter the library, users need entrance QR codes. It didn't appear and I had to turn away at the library doors. It took forever to load, and I wonder if it was because of the app traffic during midterms. However, I didn't experience this amount of app errors during former exam periods.”

The Central Library Multimedia Center was well aware of the situation. It checked the firewall and network speed, edited coding commands, and changed the LAN (local area network). “Many students have asked if the app traffic during the examination period was the problem. It could have worsened the situation, but the app is actually capable of handling more traffic. We believe the app errors were caused when the app retrieved information from the portal. For personal information protection and security enhancement, HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) was replaced by HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) at the JBNU portal, which slowed the entire process. The Central Library Multimedia Center is currently inspecting and fixing the errors. We will do our best to prevent further inconvenience,” stated the Central Library Multimedia Center.
