To find out about the housing problems faced by young people, JBNU Globe reporters interviewed two students living alone around JBNU.

Why do you live in a studio apartment now?

I think a studio apartment is the best place to guarantee my privacy and it is also easier to attend school. I am living temporarily in a studio apartment before getting a job.

Do you have any inconveniences while living alone?

The monthly rent is expensive. So, I don't have enough time to study because I work part-time job in order to pay monthly rent. Also, because of the density of the houses, people often order delivery food. Because of
this, the motorcycle noise is too loud. Not only that, but also food waste bins are located near the entrance of the building, causing a terrible smell in the summer. Finally, sometimes it is dangerous to ride a bicycle at dawn because there are not enough streetlights.

Have you ever experienced a housing problem in Korea?

I didn't extend my contract because I plan to get a job this year. I tried to rent a house, but I was surprised to find that there were no listings at all.
There were even no listings for new apartments. I have to leave my home right after the contract period ends, but I am worried that there will be no place to move to.

Are you going to live in a studio apartment?

I am planning to live in a studio apartment even after getting a job. I want to work and stay in Seoul and haven’t even considered moving into a residential apartment. Fortunately, I can endure these inconveniences while
living in a studio apartment because I think there are more advantages than disadvantages. Most importantly, living in a studio apartment is more efficient than buying an expensive apartment.

I am going to live in an apartment as soon as possible after getting a job.
I want to have my own apartment even if I get into debt. However, I am worried about the useless space of the apartment. I think most apartments are too big to live in alone, so buying an apartment can be wasteful.
