One-day Classes for You to Enjoy in Jeonju

Living in Jeonju, aren’t you curious about places where you can make meaningful experiences in one day with friends? JBNU Globe reporters will inform you four representative one-day classes with useful tips to enjoy it more abundantly!

<Bomgrim Atelier> - Korean painting studio

Have you ever wondered if there is still a place of which a traditional Korean painting is drawn and colored by modern people these days? <Bomgrim Atelier> is a place where you can color it by yourself. And it means ‘spring painting studio’ in English. If you want to participate in this studio’s one-day class, you must make a reservation and tell a teacher a design you want to paint. Let’s look together of what you can learn in this studio.

At first, you learn about materials you use. You will be prepared with three types of brushes made of animal hair, various color paints, and three-layered Hanji (a traditional Korean paper). And then, you will learn how to color the painting. The most fascinating coloring way that the JBNU Globe reporter learned was called “Barim”, a way of gradient. When you color a leaf, you put a dark color on one side of the leaf and put water gradually to make it light color on the opposite side.

[Reporter Kwon Sho-young’s Review]

I was little disappointed that I was not available to actually draw the painting. Rather, I just needed to color the painting. However, it was still a memorable experience to concentrate on myself to color it perfectly for one and a half hours. If you also want to experience drawing the painting, you can inquire a class which you can learn regularly for six months.

Location: 4, Jeollagamyeong 2-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, Republic of Korea.

Operating Hours: You should search “bomgrim” on the internet or phone call to 010-5898-0702.

Designs you can draw: Gentiana scarbra bunge, Alstroemeria, Juliet Rose, Gossypium hirsutum, Dahalia pinnata, Freesia refracta Klatt, Helianthus annuus, etc.

(Tip: If you search the language of flowers, the painting will be more meaningful for receiver.)

(Tip: The confirmation of participating in the class will be fixed in the order of deposit.)

< Daljak > - Pottery workshop

Daljak is a place where you can make a plate, a vase or a sculpture for two hours in a day. It is located near to a main site of Jeonju, Hanok Village, so many tourists and local residents prefer to visit here and make memorable time with their friends. You must make a reservation at least two days before you participate its one-day class. Aren’t you curious about the things you can enjoy in this class?

First, you decide what to make. Some participants made their own make-up plate or cups for couple. Second, you cut a clay based on the size you want to make and push the clay with a rolling pin. An artist who helps you make your work, Kang Soi, usually notifies students not to make the clay too thin because it is easy to fall apart when it is fired. Third, you make your pottery by hand freely. Lastly, you put an initial you want to put on the pottery by a stamp. It takes three weeks for the pottery to be fired and cooled. After that, you can revisit <Daljak> to get your wonderful work.

Location: 45-13, Seogok 4-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, Republic of Korea.

<memory_leather> - Leather handicraft workshop

Entering the memory leather workshop, located in the alley of Okryu mural Village, colorful leather products stand out. You must make a reservation to attend this one-day class. First, search for 'memory_leather' on Instagram, capture the product you want to make from the post and send it by Instagram DM. You can decide the date and time after receiving the available time and price information. Please note that classes are only possible with the designs in the feed.

Prior to the beginning of the class, the artist prepare cutting leather in advance. You can choose the leather’s edge or the color of the thread. Next, after cutting a hole in the leather, you have to sew hard! Since the artist tells you how to sew the thread from the beginning, it is easy for those without manual dexterity. When you sew, the artist engraves the initials which you choose on the leather goods. After coating the leather with lotion, it is finished!

How about visiting with your dear friend? Also, don't miss leather explanations, and photos.
