2014년 01월 10일 (금) 11:34:15 GLOBE globe@jbnu.ac.kr

Last time, we introduced Nanyang Technological University and the main attractions in Singapore. In this issue, we will introduce CBNU’s sister universities and give some tips for studying in Australia. CBNU has programs you can study in Australia. As you know, Australia is famous for its beauty of nature, so people can study English while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Also, there are prestigious institutions. Well, are these good enough to go to Australia? Let’s begin!

● University of Canberra (UC)
Through CBNU’s GLP program, you can study in the UC English Language Institute. We will inform you about the UC from interview notes with two seniors who already experienced the GLP in Australia.

-English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)
CBNU students can participate in prestigious English language courses. The University of Canberra has been offering English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) since 1969. It is the first English language course among universities in Australia. In other words, it is the longest established English center in Australia.

SAF(Study Abroad Foundation)
SAF program is one of supporting programs that helps students for studying abroad. In particular, you can apply for the general exchange student program in universities unenrolled directly as CBNU’s sister universities. It plays a role as a bridge between students and universities. Actually, CBNU does not have any other sister universities located in Australia for student exchange programs except the University of Canberra for GLP. For now, CBNU has been trying to make an agreement with the UC. In the near future, CBNU students will study any subject which they want to major in at UC. However, if you want to study in Australia as a general exchange student, you can apply through SAF. It is rather good for you because there are many options to choose. SAF has been making an agreement with a few domestic universities. CBNU’S sister universities connected through SAF are as many as four universities. Also, CBNU students can major in any subjects which foreign students can study. We will inform you of the University of Queensland, one of the four universities. If you want to know more specific elements or other universities, you can refer to the SAF web site. E-mailing to SAF is a good way, too. Also, you can visit the SAF KOREA. The U.S. head office is located in Indiana State, and SAF KOREA is located near Gwanghwamun.

● University of Queensland (UQ)

- About UQ

The main campus of the University of Queensland is located in St.Lucia, the southern area of Brisbane city. UQ has more campuses in Ipswich and Gatton and other locations. The UQ is ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world. In addition, UQ is the largest university in Queensland. Also, UQ is a member of G8 (Group of Eight). In addition, JSAPP provides social and networking opportunities. It will assist you with career preparation at the same time. ● Useful tips to live in Australia

There are a lot of parks in Australia. You can enjoy calm and peace. Also, you can ride a bike at any time. Australians have more of a water-saving mind than Koreans. You had better shower quickly. When you have to make an account at the bank, they do not give you a paper account. Also, they get an account maintenance fee. Keep in mind, as a student, you can remit the fee. In the café, they call Americanos “long-black”, and they call espressos “short-black”. Also, they call elevators “lifts”.
There are not any other standard plastic garbage bags, so it is okay to pack trash with any kind of bag. Most supermarkets use a self-checkout system. The public holiday is a little different in every state. Every Tuesday is movie day; the ticket prices on an ordinary day are $24 for adults and $19 for students, but on Tuesday, students can enjoy movies for $13. Every Thursday is shopping day. Mostly, shops close early, but on Thursday they stay open until 9 p.m.

An experience in a foreign nation as s part of your degree is pretty great. For one or two semesters, you would gain some special stories towards your career by meeting new people, exploring different new cultures, and enjoying worldwide opportunities. Besides, you can take courses related to your degree which are not available at CBNU. Thus, it is important for you to consider your global destinations. You should check options that you can try, and never hesitate. Do not lose the chance you have.
